ProCure Treatment Centers to Build New Training Facility in Bloomington
ProCure Treatment Centers, headquartered in Bloomington, Indiana, broke ground on its training and development center for proton therapy. As the number of new proton therapy centers increases around the world and in the United States, there is an ever-increasing demand for trained and talented clinical personnel. To accelerate the training process, ProCure has developed a comprehensive training format with modules geared specifically to the needs of medical physicists, dosimetrists, radiation technicians and radiation oncologist. Though the duration of training varies by specialty, most professionals participate in a six- to eight-week curriculum that includes a combination of on-site and Web-based training modules.

The 10th Annual Buy Indiana Expo
The Buy Indiana Expo helps connect Hoosier companies with unique opportunities to expand their business through contracts with government centers. Last year, NSWC Crane spent over $1 billion for products, goods, and services but less than 24% was spent with Indiana companies. The Buy Indiana Expo helps connect interested Indiana companies with key contacts from NSWC Crane. Workshops will be conducted by NSWC Crane and the Small Business Administration to educate businesses on how to conduct business with the Federal government.

This event will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2006 from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. CDST (10:00 am - 4:00 p.m. EDST) at Edgewood High School, Ellettsville IN.

Small Business Spotlight

South Central Indiana's area economy is made up of many unique small businesses which often are overlooked. Each month learn about a local small business that you might have not known about!

Amy Brier Sculpture
Amy Brier has been carving Indiana limestone for almost 20 years. She was introduced to limestone when she worked at the Cathedral of St John the Divine in NYC for 6 years, starting in 1987.

In graduate school at Indiana University, Amy started working on the concept of the carved stone as a tool, one that leaves an impression as it rolls in sand. She was inspired by ancient cylinder seals, small semi-precious stone cylinders that were negatively carved with scenes and cuneiform letters. They were used to mark and seal documents. She first made carved cylinders of limestone, and quickly became interested in the sphere, with its multi-directional possibilities. The subsequent art works were exhibited in the U.S. and Germany, and Amy was delighted by the reception they got from the audience. People enjoy the beauty of the images, the high level of craftsmanship, and the "ah-ha" moment it gives them as they discover for themselves the interaction of the ball and the sand. She saw that she had a great, mass-producible, high-end art experience to share with the world.

In 1995 the Roliquery line of sculpture was established as a product of Amy Brier Sculpture. A Roliquery begins with a limestone ball that is hand-carved with an original design. For and interactive experience, roll it in sand to create ephemeral and renewable sculptural patterns. Amy draws the imagery from nature, the themes ranging from leaves when they fall off the trees in autumn, to micro photography of snowflakes to carve from life. You can see this work and a complete portfolio at www.Roliquery.com and www.AmyBrier.com.

Tech News

Bloomington's downtown Certified Technology Park is made up of many unique technology development businesses. Each month learn news about these innovative businesses and other initiatives taking place in the Park!

Bloomington Unveils Action Plan For Technology Park
As part of his Community Commerce initiative, Kruzan announced a multi-year action plan for the City of Bloomington’s Certified Technology Park. The plan is the culmination of a six-month planning process facilitated by Ginovus, LLC, and led by an advisory board chaired by the Mayor.

The Certified Technology Park plan will serve as a guide for business development within the technology park and help us retain and attract employment and investment in downtown Bloomington,” Kruzan said.

Designation as a Certified Technology Park allows for the local recapture of up to $5 million of certain state and local tax revenue, which can be invested in the development of the park. In addition to the recapture of tax revenue, communities may seek up to $4 million in grant funding from the State for use within the park.

The Tech Park encompasses the IU Research Park and inVenture, and is adjacent to many cultural attractions, downtown restaurants, core neighborhoods, downtown housing and the future B-Line multi use trail.
